DNS is the service that changes your website name, eg. www.netweaver.co.uk into an IP address eg 123.456.789.111, so that it can be found on the internet. It’s an often overlooked feature of hosting but is vitally important – if your DNS fails, then so does your website and email.
A website needs at least 2 DNS servers, but many hosts run these on the same physical server, introducing a single point of failure for your website. We do things a little bit better.
We run three DNS servers, each one on a different server, on a different network and in a different physical location. Our DNS servers are located in Manchester (UK), London (UK) and California (USA). We have 2 of the 3 in the UK, as this is where most of our customers are located, and as such, most of their visitors – so by keeping them close by it ensures they can connect quickly.
